Like all members of the Porifera phylum, Callyspongia plicifera (Azure vase sponges) lack a true excretory system but are able to release used waste materials when they diffuse into cells as a water current passes through the organism’s body. The sponge’s archeocytes move the waste particles that threaten to block the ostia into and out of the mesohyl, and the waste products are then release from the organisms in the water flow system.
